One of the most common delivery models in private sector construction, Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC), puts all responsibility for construction and delivery on the EPC contractor. This is a true turnkey solution, as the owner contracts the EPC contractor to handle all phases of the project. All the owner has to do is “turn the key” to their building once construction is complete. 

For the owner, an EPC contract puts the risk and accountability solely on the EPC contractor, who is responsible for the design and construction of the project and subcontracting necessary services to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery. 

This gives the EPC contractor an enormous amount of flexibility to complete the work, often streamlining the project process, as decision-making and communication channels are shortened. An EPC model is generally used when the owner’s design focuses more on functionality and requires an expert to engineer a solution.
